About Helios Energy Ventures
Helios Energy Ventures is a venture capital firm focused on the technologies and infrastructure powering the electron economy. HEV represents the next evolution of Helios Climate Ventures, which has invested approximately $200 million since 2016, primarily in energy storage.
We invest across the systems that generate, move, store, convert, orchestrate, and manage electricity, with a particular focus on power, thermal management, and other critical infrastructure for data centers. We seek companies with the potential to deliver both compelling financial returns and meaningful climate impact.
Helios operates with a lean, high-performing team that combines technical depth, financial discipline, and extensive industry relationships. We take pride in our intellectual honesty, camaraderie, integrity, and shared commitment to building an exceptional investment firm.
The Role
We are hiring a Senior Investment Analyst to contribute across the investment process—from thesis development and sourcing through diligence, investment committee materials, portfolio monitoring, and LP communications. This hands-on role requires technical fluency, financial rigor, clear writing, sound judgment, and entrepreneurial relationship-building.
What You’ll Do
- Develop investment themes and market maps across energy and data center infrastructure, including generation, cooling, storage, grid systems, power electronics, and adjacent technologies.
- Source opportunities by identifying promising companies, building market relationships, and tracking technologies aligned with the Helios thesis.
- Lead screening and diligence workstreams covering technical performance, manufacturing, customer traction, competition, and commercialization risk.
- Evaluate financial and commercial fundamentals, including business models, unit economics, capital needs, runway, valuation, ownership, and potential returns.
- Draft investment memos and recommendations that turn technical, market, and financial findings into clear, decision-useful analysis.
- Support portfolio monitoring and LP communications, by tracking company and market developments and translating them into concise, accurate updates.
- Build and maintain a differentiated network of founders, operators, professors, researchers, customers, industry experts, and co-investors that strengthens our pipeline and investment judgment over time.
Who We’re Looking For
- Technical acumen. You can interpret technical documentation and test data and assess performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and deployment readiness. Technical degrees are helpful but not required; judgment matters more than pedigree.
- Financial and commercial judgment. You can analyze financial statements, build useful models from imperfect information, and evaluate unit economics, capital needs, financing structures, cap tables, and returns. You focus on the assumptions that drive business reality.
- Energy and infrastructure fluency. Experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure, data centers, or climate technology is valuable but not required. You understand—or are eager to learn—how innovation becomes deployable and investable.
- Entrepreneurial relationship-building. You identify and engage people worth knowing, ask thoughtful questions, earn trust, and maintain relationships that help Helios find exceptional opportunities early.
- Sharp, clear communicator. You turn complex technical, financial, and market information into concise, well-structured analysis. You defend your views, acknowledge uncertainty, and change your mind when evidence warrants it.
- Great team member. You are collaborative, dependable, intellectually humble, and comfortable taking broad ownership in a small, high-performing team.
- Two to four years of relevant experience. Potential backgrounds include engineering, energy or infrastructure, utilities, startups, consulting, investment banking, transaction advisory, or another analytically rigorous operating or financial role. Investing experience is helpful but not required; curiosity and learning agility are essential.
Exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered for an Investment Analyst position.
Applying
Candidates should email their resume and a response of no more than 300 words identifying a company, technology, or emerging market that may fit the Helios thesis and explaining why it is an exciting investment opportunity. Documents can be sent to hi****@******cv.com.
